Cleveland has seen a resurgence of old-school-style butcher shops in the last few years. One of my favorites is Saucisson, located in Slavic Village. Owned and operated by the "Bad Ass Lady Butchers" Melissa Khoury and Penny Barend, Saucisson has hosted three Sunday Brunches this summer. Bob and I were able to get to two of them, and it was well worth the trip (even on August 12, when I-77 was completely closed and we had to take the scenic route). The second featured made-to-order cocktails prepared by the rum-slinging wizards of Porco Lounge & Tiki Room.
For the first brunch, on June 10, 2018, Bob and I each enjoyed the same meal.
These Carnitas Chilequiles featured tender pork with the tortilla chips, veggies, seasonings and perfectly fried egg.
Our second brunch was August 10, and even better than the first. How can you go wrong when Porco Lounge & Tiki Room is in the house? That and the new macrolens on my camera (Happy Birthday to me!).
The rum-based Painkiller accompanied the spicy brunch fair with great aplomb. Yes, that's a real cherry.
Bob sampled the Steak Breakfast Tacos:
Cumin infused beef melded with Cojita Cheese, Taco Sauce, and Scrambled Eggs on fresh flour tortillas.
Melissa's recommendation of the Brunch Panzanella Salad was spot on.
Local small tomatoes combined with salad greens and bits of fried pork belly were topped with house made croutons, "Herby Dressing," and the most delightful runny egg.
Though the Summer of 18 brunches at Saucisson may be over, they are open for lunch or an early dinner bite Thursday through Saturday, and may be putting additional Sunday brunches on the calendar soon! Offering both freshly butchered raw meat and house-made sausages as well as cooked/ready to eat items, Saucisson offers fun playing with beautiful meats and accompaniments!
